The Scooter Foundation - Volunteer Information
Looking to make a real difference in Milwaukee? You've come to the right place.
We appreciate any and all volunteers. Without our gracious and dedicated volunteers,
the children of Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary would not have these wonderful
opportunities. If you are unable to volunteer, please consider a donation. We are a
501c(3) Foundation, and all of our proceeds go directly back to support the children of
Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary.
What our volunteers do:
The Scooter Foundation works with the children, grades K-5, of Oliver Wendell Holmes
Elementary. WIth the gracious assistance of our
committed volunteers, we have helped these hard working youth turn their community around.
Want to Volunteer? Here's what to expect:
We ask for nothing more than your time, commitment, positive attitude and outlook, and
desire to inspire change in Milwaukee.
If you would like to be on our volunteer list to hear about great upcoming events,
please e-mail Nalissa: nalissa@scooterfoundation.org
Before the Event:
Wake up, grab a cup of coffee and get ready for fun! Please arrive at our monthly
outing destination by 10:30 am. If you are a new volunteer, we will pair you with a
"Senior Buddy". Your senior buddy will explain the day, what to
expect from the event and the children, and how we will help you make the most of your
time with the Scooter Foundation.
The children arrive courtesy of Bus Driver Mario around 11:00 am on a bus from Oliver
Wendell Holmes Elementary. From there, each volunteer and Senior Buddy will be
assigned 3-5 children.
What to do with your group of kids?
Step 1: Introduce yourself. Tell them what you do, where you are from and things you
are interested in. This first initial conversation is an excellent way to form a
connecting bond with the kids.
Step 2: Let the kids introduce themselves. Ask what they likie to do, if they have any
brothers or sisters, what are they proud of this month, and what they are proud of that
allowed them to attend. Remember, they deserve to be here, and deserve the recognition!
Step 3: When the entire foundation comes together to begin the activity, work with your
Senior Buddy to help the kids with whatever they are doing.
Rules (for kids & adults):
No swearing, use "please" and "thank you", encourage others, have a good attitude, and
have fun!
