Up Next: "March Outing: To Be Announced"

Moving forward, we have some very exciting news to share. First, our next event will be Saturday, March 27. Time and place are TBA. We are anticipating taking the kids ice skating at the Pettit Center. Now for the really exciting news, we have a local athlete (who also happens to be a gold medal winner from the 2010 Winter Olympics Men's Speed Skating) who may be joining us for this event! This is not yet confirmed, but through strong connections dating back to Scooter himself, this may very well become a reality. What an amazing opportunity it would be for the children to skate with a real Olympic athlete who, like our kids, grew up in a very tough environment. Hopefully his success will be inspiring to the children and volunteers, what an excellent example. So, we'll keep our fingers crossed and I'll be sure to update you as we learn more.

Our April outing will coincide with our Earth Day Acitivities. We hope to initiate the "Garden of Hope" across the street from Oliver Wendel Holmes School.

Do you have a green thumb or know someone who does? O.W. Holmes is going green! Many of you saw the open lot across from the school, and come April, it will be a garden for everyone to enjoy! And by this I mean we are officially starting a Garden Club with the coordinated help and dedication of Sweet Water Organics, Victory Gardens and Outpost. WOW, what Susan started as a small foundation just years ago has bloomed (ha, no pun intended!) into something really special. We are looking to form a Garden Club Committee made up of Scooter Foundation volunteers. We haven't yet worked out all the details, but we are hoping the committee will help take care of the garden, and also work with the kids to sustain the garden. We plan to decorate colorful benches, create compost, and grow delicious and healthy fruits and vegetables. Again, we don't yet have all of the details worked out, but I will certainly update you all as soon as I know more. But please put the word out if you know anyone who enjoys gardening, and do remind them it's for a great cause, the kids!

As you can imagine, we need help. Please e-mail me here, or call me at 262-224-9575.

Thanks, ... Nalissa
