Thanks to the most amazing volunteers, community
members, and incredible students that show up for our events and outings.
We had a memorable day on Saturday April
24th. This has been a dream or vision of mine
since the very first time I arrived at O. W. Holmes School over four years ago.
Thanks to everyone that helped make that dream a reality. Scooter's Garden of
Hope is such an incredible gift to the students and community.
With special thanks to our sponsors: Actaea Works Salon and Spa, The very dedicated
volunteers from Kohl's, Whole Foods Market, Bliffert Lumber, Sweet Water
Foundation, Solid Concrete Counter Tops, Bay View Art and Design, Gretchen Meade
of Victory Garden Initiative, UWM center for Volunteerism, Lake Front Brewery,
Alterra Coffee, Tulipomania European Flowers and Urban Garden Designer Jackie McGraw.
In addition I would like to thank the Garden Committee which met every
week for 6 weeks: Nalissa, Jessi, Sarah, and Natalie. Our Student garden
committee helped in the design and building of the garden, and most importantly
will sustain the garden. Mr. Payton who kicked off the
garden last year and was instrumental in the clean up on April 11th and building
the garden on April 24th.
Many thanks to Ms. Nonna and Hannah who organized an
incredible lunch for all of the workers. I would like to thank Howard from Sweet
Water for his humble wit and wisdom.
Of course I would like to Thank Ms. Mays for her never ending commitment to the students and
the foundation. It was great having Ms. Wallace the principal of O. W. Holmes
elementary school even though it was raining. It certainly was a memorable day
and will live in my heart, the students and the community for a very long time.
I thank you for all that you did.
